This piece was composed for the late Estonian president Lennart Georg Meri in 2006. The piece was eventually released as the 10th track in Arvo Part's latest composition, In Principio (2009).

This part of the final episode is a semi spoiler, so if you are planning to watch the series you have been warned. This is one of my favourite parts of the prisoner series, and saying that the final 2 episodes are original is an understatement.

alexis no 48 steels the show with this bizarre preformance which i absolutey love.....the wordplay is fantastic..like the way he tips his hat to no.6 due to no6 adressing kennth griffith (who is also great)as"dad"......now your hip!!!!says the word of the lord....

*CRICKETS* My advice would be to watch the entire series, start to finish. It's only 17 episodes so believe me when i say it would be a lot faster than trying to explain it through youtube comments.
I'll give it a shot. It's an allegory about class and society. No. 48 is The Youth (which was a big, especially disruptive force in the '60s); No. 2 represents The Establishment. Both, in their own way, are orthodoxies. No. 6 is the "everyman" observer -- the one with whom the viewing audience is supposed to identify (note that the production company is called Everyman Films) -- who is trying to avoid the excesses of both orthodoxies. Ladled over this allegorical message are a couple of additional themes about the potential misuse of technology -- the machines that are supposed to free us can actually imprison us -- and about the spiritual freedom of the individual being the highest aspiration.

The thing about this episode, like most of the series, is that you can't tell if its real or just something staged for Number 6's benefit.
What I always liked about the line and the way he delivered it was the multiple layers of meaning. He was literally about the "hear the word of the Lord", in this case, the judge/House of Lords member who was about to sentence him. The way the show delivered out meaning in little spoonfuls of dialogue is something most people (today, esp) don't have the patience for but it's great.
I think the song can be that his body is theirs, but his mind is not.
I first listened to this beautiful piece on watching the Spanish film "A los que Aman" by Isabel Coixet and fell in love with it. There are likely a few films where one can enjoy this.
It is hard to find the words. The music says it all. It goes deep into the soul. Thank you Zbigniew for this masterpiece.
